The latest buzz around the beauty industry is the new Derma Roller Facial. Angelina Jolie is already a fan, and it claims to naturally rejuvenate the skin, as well as stimulate blood flow, exfoliate, and stimulate collagen production.
So how does it do this? A tiny little roller with lots of micro needles (looks like some sort of torture device) is rolled over your skin, producing tiny little punctures which then kick starts the body’s healing process, by stimulating blood flow and collagen production.
Does it hurt? Half hour before the facial, an anaesthetic cream is applied onto the skin to numb the area. Once the skin is numb, the roller is rolled back and forth over the whole of your face producing tiny wounds that your body then tries to heal. It is an uncomfortable facial, but not painful. You will be left looking red, but this will subside after 48 hours, and maybe a bit of dry, flaky or some skin peeling, but it soon passes.
The result? Fresher, tighter, younger looking skin! At £300 a time, (course of 3 recommended, one every four to six weeks) I don’t know if the result is significantly better than your average microdermabrasion at £55 a facial, which kind of works on the same principle. It’s an exciting facial though, and I’d love to try it; if it’s good enough for Angelina, it’s good enough for me!
