I am so excited about CND’s Shellac! As far as I can tell, it’s the best invention the Nail Industry has seen for many years, and is sure to change its future!
So what is Shellac? Shellac is a Hybrid Nail Colour; a polish that cures with UV light that gives all the benefits of a gel. Shall I tell you the best bit? It dries instantly and lasts 14 days!! Using UV3 technology, Shellac is scratch proof, smudge proof and gives you 14 days of shine. I am currently Shellac-ed in French and I love it. After 14 days my nails are all intact, they are still shiny, and I have no chips. I can’t wait to try out a colour next time.
After 5 years of research a new product has been born; CND have managed to take the best bits of a polish (no buffing the natural nail, nice thin coats) and the best bits of a gel (long lasting, chip proof, and smudge proof) to create Shellac. Initially launching in 12 colours, I have heard this will grow to over 60 within a year. Shellac is also hypoallergenic, and contains no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP.
It’s like a magic polish – first a base coat is applied, it’s cured under UV light, then 2 coats of a colour (or French) which is again cured under UV light, and then finally a top coat, which, you guessed it, is cured under a UV light. A quick wipe with solution and hey presto – you have lovely, shiny, dry nails!
Shellac will be available at Beauty of Bedford as from 16th June. Call 01234 307373 to book your appointment!

Shellac does not live up to it’s name! It isn’t chip proof. I have had it put on three different times, and each time, it did chip off of a lot of my nails. Not all the way off, but it did chip! Also, it takes a lot longer then 10 minutes to get the shellac off. My nail person uses wraps and she leaves it on a little bit longer then 10 minutes, and still has to take something to get it off the rest of the way!
