Emerging designers are one of the greatest parts of the fashion industry; ones who have a focused vision, yet bring new and innovative twists to contemporary designs. That’s why since being fortunate enough to meet them in April and seeing their luxurious yet wearable A/W 11 collection, I have been waiting with upmost anticipation at what these two talented ladies are up to next.
For S/S 2012, Hemyca are still aiming at their power woman client, yet modernising her further; inspired by the excitement surrounding the 2012 Olympics and summoning up a unique vision of a “sport-chic go-getter”. The collection, entitled “Fragments of Illusion” sees the aesthetic step away slightly from the gothic-power woman- fairytale that was this season’s collection, through a clever juxtaposition of both colour and texture, brought together by fragmentation. Neutral tones have been given an injection of light and life with pops of cobalt blue, bright red and orange on dresses and skirts. My favourite piece is a beautiful organza trench coat in black and white stripe, with one red stripe at the bottom and a hint of red on the collar. This, paired with the black leather pencil skirt, emphasises the careful contraposition of textures which Hemyca do so well, and made me fall in love with the label in the first place. Other luxurious materials which have been used to make yet another wearable, mix and match-able collection are chiffon, cotton, pinstripe linen and chain details.

Hemyca have continued with their trademark of a strong, feminine silhouette, yet have softened this image for the summer through flowing and elegant fabrics. Another key component to Hemyca’s designs is that they take classic, iconic styles yet add groundbreaking, intriguing details; be it through a particular line or cut, a certain button fastening or a cute leather collar; this is what projects the label’s luxe quality and more importantly, the capacious talent of these two designers.
Hemyca offer both ready-to-wear and couture. Look at www.hemyca.com for more details.
