Afternoon Tea at The Berkley Hotel is fit for any fashionista! One of the best experiences I’ve had in a very long time, the Pret-a-Portea was just fantastic. Such a beautiful place, with great service and cakes to die for!
Inspired by the colours and themes of the fashion season, the menu is completely transformed every six months to allow for seasonal changes. I experienced the Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection which includes designs by Christian Dior, Burberry, Christian Lacroix, Louis Vuitton and Mulberry, all served on fine-bone china designed by Paul Smith. Bliss!
Sitting in the Caramel Room of The Berkley, a selection of different teas flow freely, accompanied by a selection of sandwiches, all delicious. Then the cakes arrive and it’s difficult to know where to start! My favourite was probably the Matthew Williamson joconde sponge cake dress filled with lychee cream and spun sugar ruffles. But then again I also loved the Burberry Classic Trench Coat biscuit with rich cinnamon flavours with a caramel belt and buttons or was it the Mulberry white chocolate and coconut truffle ‘it’ bag with a silver clasp that captured my taste buds? It was all so nice!
Just as we reached the point where we just couldn’t eat anymore, the waiter (who was also gorgeous) walked towards us armed with goodie bags! Our own little cakes to take home! All in all it was a great experience and I cannot wait till the Spring/Summer 2010 Menu is launched at the end of the month… I hear that it’s all summer fruit mousses and bikini biscuits, which will complement the pastel shades of this season perfectly.
