‘THE REFECTION’

Swedish born designer, Simon Ekrelius’s fashion show hit town today. It was a packed house and it wasn’t a disappointment.

Currently based in London, his collections take inspiration from post-modern architecture. And next Spring/Summer 2011′s collection has used Norman Fosters tower ’30 St Mary Axe’, or to those of us that don’t know our architecture, The Gherkin, as his inspiration this time round. No where is this more evident, then the conical hats and straight lines that give his collection a strong and structured feel.

Black and White seem to be the order of the day. With many panelled, half White, half Black garments. Also diamond like prints, which reminded me of Harlequin dolls.  He has also cited Grace Jones, as an inspiration for this, and you could imagine her wearing one of his Jump suits on stage. Light Blue was the accent colour. And many different textures and materials were used, such as, Silk, Organza, Luxury Cottons and Silk Jerseys, with some matt, shiny and grainy affects also being used.

The collection consisted of, Cocktail dresses, Jump suits, Jackets and for the first time, he introduced Knitwear with two key coloured pieces. But the most striking of his separates, must have been, the Raincoats, in transparent plastic with contrast Black piping. Although my personal favourite has to be the pale Blue, Organza, sheer dress, that seemed to float down the Cat walk. I would have given my right arm for that dress. Although if I had, I‘d have had trouble writing this article now, so that wouldn’t have been such a good idea.

All in all, it was glamorous, beautiful, simple, light and structured collection, which will, no doubt, excite his followers, who include Lady Gaga and Alison Goldfrapp, amongst many others.
