When it comes to shoes and designers we think of Louboutin, Choo, Manolo Blahnik or Gina. And whilst these are fabulous, inspiring designers, who produce beautifully crafted shoes, I say move over, because there’s a new kid in town, and she goes by the name of Charlotte Olympia Dellal.
Her designs are breathtakingly quirky and scream glamour. After launching her label, Charlotte Olympia, in 2006, her designs have been coveted by nearly every ‘A list’ celebrity you can think of. And have become synonymous with classic shapes and attention to detail. Each shoe is hand crafted in Italy and finished with the brands signature gold spider web on the sole of each shoe.
She is inspired by the Hollywood glamour of old and uses Leopard print; fan detailing and vibrant colours, and not forgetting sky high HIGH heels. She admits that she actually hates feet, and that’s why she designs beautiful shoes, so that no one will want to take them off! Her love of all things high and sexy started, as it does with most little girls, wearing her mother’s shoes. ‘I think every little girls likes high heels’, she says ‘But I was obsessed’. So years later, when she was studying at The London College of Fashion, it clicked that footwear could be more then just a fetish. Charlotte swears by the motto; ‘A shoe can make an outfit’, not that its shoes all the time, she’s also a huge fan of hats and gloves too.
For her the secret of a good shoe design is in the detail. There’s a pleat here, a piece of vintage fabric there, a ruffle on a heel or a mega platform, which makes every design unique. For Charlotte they are not just shoes to be worn out but also shoes to be put out on display.
