I must admit I’ve never been a huge fan of Guess clothing. Maybe it’s my age, but when it was founded in the early eighties, to me, it was like a poor mans Levi’s. But then at the time I was going through my Mod phase and used to dress like a sober Amy Winehouse. But thanks to the film ‘Back to the Future’, and the main character, Marty McFly  (yes he of the boy band!), being dressed in distinctive Guess denim, their iconic black and white photos and ad campaigns, they soon became a world wide phenomenon.

But despite all this success, the designer jeans et al has never really been my thing. I try and avoid their stores, as I do feel slightly over the hill now. I took it upon myself to think that I had missed the boat on wearing Guess clothing, at it is synonymous with people in their early twenties.  I walked into one of their stores the other week and promptly walked out again.

Guess3Guess4Having said this I have been privileged to attend their Autumn/winter collection and Spring/Summer accessories Collection the other day, and I’m not kidding, was quite taken aback and pleasantly surprised.  Ok so there is still the jeans/denim look that you automatically think about, but step away from that and they have created some really pretty dresses and separates. Not to mention a huge array of bags, sunglasses, fantastic watches and really lovely, delicate items of jewellery. For me, being a bit of a watch junkie, I was in my element and I also feel in love with the rings and charms.

Their collections are broken up into:

Creative Journey – richly textured wovens and decorative fabrics. Lots of colours, prints and worn luxury leathers. Lace, patchwork and animal skins play a big part too. The mood is overall Adventurous, sporty and stylish.

Royal Underground – a look that’s all about living on the edge. Metals and chains, mixed with splatter and grunge effects. Skins and hound’s-tooth patterns mixed with dark shine. We are talking distressed, dark colours, such as black, grey and deep reds. The overall look is sexy, with an urban punk and classic glamour chic.

Vintage Dreams – inspired by crystal hues, soft jewel tones, and delicate feminine prints with a romantic mood. Decorative fabrics, lace and crotchet patchwork, vintage hardware, unexpected glitter and worn luxe leathers embrace this vintage feel. These styles are retro inspired with a twist of vintage appeal.

Have I been converted?……..well yes actually, I have. It took some time, but I got there in the end. And armed with all this new information and insight, I’m off to visit their website and maybe you might see me in a Guess outfit this coming summer.
