There are not many designers that have such an outstanding or eclectic career as Margit Brandt. From designing uniforms for the Danish Olympic team, Gala uniforms for the Dutch Air force, having their designs exhibited in Museums, to living the jet set lifestyle, mixing, back in the day, with the likes of Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Truman Capote. Whilst managing to be, throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, a renowned global fashion brand.

Today Margit Brandt is still a global brand, maybe not as well known in this country as some; it is quite unimaginable that it isn’t. Her designs are innovative, yet timeless with a feminine elegance. With respect for the contemporary, Margit Brandt still has the ability to add that special detail and characteristic that reflects the brands prime times. It’s a unique fashion fusion of nostalgic retro with a contemporary spark and twist. They have managed to be timeless and elegant but at the same time sexy and edgy too. And her designs are as relevant now as they were forty years ago.

Margit started her international career in 1965, as an apprentice in Paris. But with her inventiveness and confident style, she won huge recognition. And after meeting and marrying her husband, Erik Brandt, the marriage would be the catalyst to one of the most successful Scandinavian designer couples. And so would begin the start to their hugely successful collections. The pair were producing everything from fashion to lingerie, furs, sportswear, and watches to personnel grooming products. And their trendsetting designs found their way into some of the top department stores around the world.

Whether you decide to wear her collection from head to toe, or mix them up with other designers and high street brands, they truly are outstanding pieces that will stand the test of time and the fickleness of fashion. Margit Brandt has already proven that her designs can do all those things, and more, and I for one hope that we have many more years to come of her outstanding style and beautiful, glamorous collections. And that she becomes as well known in this country, as she is in the rest of Europe, so we can all experience this Danish legend and style icon.
