When I look at the Zara Taylor collection, I can’t help but feel as though I have been thrown back into the world of Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, a simple time where mystical stories are told to children and are believed for years.

I did not know what I was going to expect from this launch. I have been to many and they have been alright and nothing of real taste but with every low there must be a high and the high is this brand Noire.

Located on a street off brick lane, Noire held their launch party with free drinks and music flowing nicely in the background to create a nice little mood. Noire have seemed to merge a minimalism approach that most designers are or have been doing and transform it into a range of T-shirts and crop tops.

The designs made you think, like feathers neatly compacted and sewn onto the front and a black velvet strip on a white t-shirt gives the t-shirt a bit of character to it. They are not over the top designs but they have just enough style without shouting it out. Tiring of your usual clutch bag? Why not step into the artistic world of Lulu Guinness, with her limited edition fan bags collection.

The trend-setting designer, known for her witty and unique hand bag designs, has collaborated with celebrities including Paloma Faith, Sophie Dahl and artist, Rob Ryan, to produce a collection of fan bags, each one reflecting their individual characters.

The fan bags themselves are truly beautiful; mixing encrusted Swarovski crystals with intricate embroidery, completed by hand using complimentary metallic thread.

The Rob Ryan design depicts an image of a couple romantically sitting underneath a London night sky, complete with the motif of Swarovski crystals as stars. The one-of-a-kind timeless piece is also signed by both Rob Ryan and Lulu Guinness.

This particular treat is on display at Ryan’s exhibition, “The Stars Shine All Day Too,” which is available to view until 20^th November.

So, here we have another peek at a truly talented emerging designer. This one’s not your usual cup of tea, either. Ever heard the phrase, “it’s all in the accessories”? Well, Lucy Jay literally defines that phrase with her new collection of beautiful, eye-popping scarves.

You may think you have seen beauty in scarves before, however your standards are bound to up to a brand new level after taking a look at these designs. With the mixture of so many different colours, both rich and muted, and the combination of many different patterns in her prints, Lucy Jay is breaking the boundaries of traditional scarf design. When wearing the scarves, they are so bold and brave, that they become the outfit themselves. This is a complete contrast to the average scarf which we are so used to seeing, utilised only to compliment or add a dash of colour to an already well made outfit. With Lucy Jay’s scarves, all you need is a base palette of neutrals, or even just one neutral, and when the scarf is added, voila! A new and unique look is born.

The power of her different and inspiring designs is on display, from a recent photo shoot. The images are shown on her blog, lucyjay.blogspot.com, and are simply of a gorgeous model, stripped down to nothing but a pair of nude knickers and her trusty Lucy Jay scarf. Through these images you can really see the beauty of her designs, and the exploration of the many different ways scarves can be worn, and interpreted. When speaking of the new collection and the photos, Lucy Jay comments, “I wanted to show a sexier side to my designs.”

The balance in the designs is also highly intriguing. Although the colours stand out and are varied, they don’t clash with each other, or at least in a bad way. The shapes and patterns themselves are also meticulously symmetrical, and each is finished with a monochrome border, helping to break up the colour slightly. The paint-splattered centre-pieces add a fresh, young tone to the sophisticated colour choice seen further to the edges of the designs. They are a perfect balance of sophistication and originality.

Lucy Jay is extremely passionate about scarves, and loves to see the same in her customers and many fans. Her designs are so adaptable that it is easy to see why anyone falls in love with them- they are an elegant yet are a completely unique twist to add to any outfit, whether casual or glamorous. They are also the epitome of luxury, made from the softest silk jersey materials. Lucy Jay’s inspiration is the goddess Cleopatra, the woman who conquered some of the most powerful men, and as Lucy Jay described, is kind to the eye, yet full of excitement. That is really the ultimate definition for her new collection; they are delightfully appealing to look at, however they are also nothing old, classic, or done-before.

So prom nights are big, and what with schools shutting for the summer and the proms beginning I thought I would lightly touch on this.

Volume is still a massive thing and its going to be around for a while, so go back to the 50’s and get those beehives high. Kathryn Jenkins and Drew Barrymore set fine examples of this seasons 1950’s trend.

Leona Lewis looks fab with this classy traditional bun knot and it’s so simple to achieve. Check out my step by step to get the look.

Hair accessories also are a big must have. It’s a great way of changing your hair from that in the day look to night time glamour in no mare than 60seconds.

Diana Vickers is now on the scene and this picture really resembles what summers all about. She has that beautiful beach look with the tussled curls and to glam the look up she has gone for a head band accessory… I’m loving her style at the mo.

GET THE PROM LOOK…

This can be glammed up or toned down depending on the occasion.

STEP 1:

Apply some mousse to washed and towel dried hair and dry hair straight.

STEP 2:

In large sections straighten the hair just to give it a smoother edge.

STEP 3:

Neatly brush all your hair into a pony tail quite high up on your head.

STEP 5:

Back brush all the pony tail with a soft bristled brush or a Denman soft bristle brush which you can get from boots.

STEP 6:

Grip the hair up in small sections loosely around the secured hair bobble you placed in to hold the ponytail. A bit like you would when trying to create a bun shape.

STEP 7:

Once the bun is shaped how you want it, use a good firm hold hair spray like Elnett strong hold. Spray the hair and the bun.

STEP 8:

For the beach, wrap a nice head scarf around the bun to give more interest to the look.

STEP 9:

For glamour, go all out and apply a nice hair accessory whether it be a head band or clip get that bun looking like its ready to hit the town or prom!!
